Date: 26.12.91 - Time: 6:00 CET Time to wake up, take a shower, eat a bit. Now I'm ready for the forthcoming 10 hours trip to Denmark. After collecting Head in Osnabrueck and meeting Zorba in Dammerberge we headed for Flensburg. The next few hours nothing special happened. Finaly we reached the danish border. From now on our trip went more and more chaotic. Caused by the genius navigation of Head, we were from time to time heading more back to Germany than to our destination. So we had to ask for the way several times. But finaly we found the right route and after 10 hours of nearly non-stop driving we reached Aars. The party-place was easy to find. It was an exhibition-center near the town of Aars. As we entered the hall we found about 1000 guys already present. We added our name to the visitors-list and tried to find our reserved place. But we had to find out that some guys from a group called Palace had already build up their computers there. We asked them to leave our place because it was reserved but they acted really arrogant. As we didn't want any discussions, we searched for a new place and finally build up our computers on the table of Abandon. (Thanx guys!) Soon we recognized the special feature this party offered. They had 2 TV channels running non-stop. The first one was dedicated to all the latest informations about the party and later on for the demo-comps. The second one was transmitting some of the latest movies (e.g. Hot Shots). They also offered a party-radio-channel. Another cool idea was the party-bus driving continuesly between the station of Aalborg and Aars. So all the guys who came by train had no problems to get to the party-place. Some hours of chatting started. I met some really cool guys (Hi Lord Helmet and Chester), so I didn't get bored. At 10:00 the organizers suddenly faded down the light. Everyone was heading for the big Video-Screen because Silents DK presented their video-demo called 'Global Trash II'. It was done by Jesper Kyd, Mikael Balle and Sionic. It's more a music-clip than a demo, but on the big screen it really looked great. (Try to get a copy of it!). Again the usual party-action started: Chatting, copying, boozing... And the boozing caused really some problems. Some more or less drunken guys started to shoot with gotscha-ammonution and tear-gas. The organizers got quiet angry and forbid any kind of boozing on the party. At about 3:00 we finaly went to sleep. The organizers offered a second exhibition-hall for sleeping. It was big enough for all the present guys. Date: 27.12.91 - Time: early morning A stupid (drunken?) guy caused a fire alarm. Some minutes later the local fire-service arrived. As they recognized that there was no fire and the alarm was a fake, they wanted the organizers to pay 20.000 DK (about 5400 DM). As they hadn't supposed something like this to happen, suddenly their money-organisation failed. All in all they said, that they lost a great amount of money with this party. So they wanted to cancel the party immediatly. But giving it a second thought, they decided to keep up the party even if they lost some money. As two guys got back to their place this morning they had to find out that their Amigas were stolen. A Trumpcard HD was also missing. The organizers said that they would call the police if the hardware wouldn't appear again, but as you might imagine this never happened. But some guys showed their great humour and sticked the following message to the Black Board: Ich verkaufe (I sell) 2 Amiga 500 1 Trumpcard Staendig erweitertes Angebot Ask for HEAD/COMA for infos. Some seconds later the organizers appeared at our table. They chatted some minutes but we were able to convince them, that this was only a stupid joke! Some hours later the Kick-Off competition started. I wasn't interested in it, so I can't give you the winners here. Sorry! Then at the evening the sound- and graphics-competition started. They got 41 pictures for the GFX-competition. Nearly all pics had a really high quality. After that, they started the sound-comp. They got all in all 80 sounds of which they played only 30. This 30 sounds were chosen by a certain jury before the real comp. The quality of the sound-comp was not so good as the gfx-comp. I think most sounds were only average. There were only a few sounds which sounded really well. After the comps the votes were collected. Nothing special happend this night. So we went to sleep at about 3:00. Date: 28.12.91 - Time: about 7:00 The orgainzers awaked us out of our sweet sleep. They told us to leave the sleeping hall, because it was needed now. So we got our stuff and crept to the main hall. Half awake half asleep! Having a look on the video-screen I recognized, that we just missed the C-64 Demo-Competition. So I'm not able to give you the results. Soon the results of sound- and graphics-competition were published: Sound-Competition: ---------------------------- 1. TIP and Mantronix of Phenomena 2. Static of Rebels 3. Nightlight of Kefrens Graphics-Competition: ---------------------------- 1. Iridon of Shining 2. Cougar of Sanity 3. RWO of Kefrens Then the long awaited demo-competition started. They got all in all 26 demos. Here is a complete list of all groups who participated in this comp: Upfront, End of Century, Dual Crew, Brainwave, Talent, Panoramic Designs, Brainfuck (Orlando and Rob Rose of Brainstorm), Agony, Anarchy (2 Demos), Justice, Shadow World, Aero, Swampions, Razor 1911, United Lamers, Cult, Silents+Crionics, Aurora, Rednex, Kefrens, Rebels, Horizon, Virtual, Trackers and Alcatraz. The quality of the demos was really fantastic. Especially the 38 minutes long demo from Alcatraz showed really what possibilities the Amiga has. It's not a real demo showing new effects or stuff like this, it's more a Star-Wars like Vector-Movie. (Try to get your hands on it!) After some time they finally published the results: Demo-Competition: ---------------------------- 1. Odyssey by Alcatraz 2. Hardwired by Crionics and Silents 3. Voyage by Razor 1911 All in all this party was a great success. Nearly the whole elite Amiga scene was present. All in all about 1300 guys of 340 groups were present! (We got this list directly from the organizers. So thanx for your support!) Finaly I have to say, that this party was really the best one I've ever seen. A perfect organisation made this possible. So thanx to the organizers. You really did a great job. But as on every party there were some guys present who caused trouble. I don't think boozing is the main reason for their behaviour. They'd also act like this if they have drunken nothing. So I think this guys have to stay outside on further parties. But except from this, I think the party was perfect. NOTE: On the 27.12.91 my camera got lost somewhere somehow. I got really depressed, because I thought I'd never see it back again. But there was really someone out there who found it and brought it to the organizers. Thank you, who ever you are! I hope that there will be a second party like this in 1992! See you there!
