Rebels
On the 10th of February 1989, the two Danish groups Chaos Cooperation and Roadrunners decided to join forces and merge into Rebels. Their first production (On the Wheels of Steel), announcing this, was released two days later at the Bamiga Sector One and Warfalcons party, held in Fredericia, Denmark.
Among the original members were Droopy, Jake, Static, Vandal, Xod and Yoyo, who all stayed in the group for several years. In The Incredible Hulk, Xod talks about another original member, Cruncher, who out of the blue, sold his Amiga and left the scene. This happened in August 1989, only six months after he helped found Rebels. He would later return to the group as Pac-Man and is even mentioned as a member in the 1994 release; Prurient.
During the early 90's, Rebels was the unofficial "go-to" group, when other groups had problems. When the original Kefrens died in the beginning of 1991, prominent members like R.W.O, S.L.L, ICronite and Milkshake briefly joined before moving on to other groups. Later that year, in August, Sanity suffered the same problems and a bunch of their best members joined Rebels as Sanity dissolved. Among them were prominent guys like 16-Beat, Chaos, Cruiser and Jester.
Over the years, Rebels have had divisions in several European countries, like Sweden, Holland, Finland, France, Germany, UK, Austria, Belgium and Yugoslavia. In mid 1990, the highly talented Swedish section decided to join The Silents. They were Alta, Fuzzac, Marillion and Mogwie among others. However, many of them later returned. In November 1990, their pack Candyland #34 was released, announcing: "Rebels no longer have divisions in Holland, England and Yugoslavia. Instead we have some new cool members in Austria".
One year later, November 1991, Top Secret #09 brought the news, that the entire Finnish division was kicked. This seems highly unlikely, since they released their BBS Commercial in January 1992 and later on, Meegosh was announced world leader sometime during the summer of 1992.
1993 started disastrously for Rebels, when January brought on a mass migration to a new group formed almost exclusively of ex-Rebels members; Movement. Dane Jake was chosen to take over the reins of the group and he managed to get Rebels back on track. He passed the duty as main organizer on to Bozo in 1994 and the "rebirth" also saw prominent members like Danes Conan and Static rejoining.
Shortly after being reformed, the German section released their first demo; Prurient. It was quickly followed by the winner of the Doomsday party, Switchback, and Rebels seemed to be back as one of the leading groups. They finished the year at the party with Whammer Slammer, the third demo in a row by German duo Zulu and Grey.
1995 saw only a few pack releases and a couple of issues of the Swedish chart/mag, Sverige Toppen, done in cooperation with TBL & Triad.
