Crionics

In the early ’90s, Crionics were among the most talented and respected groups in Denmark, primarily due to their coders The Spy, Deftronic, Saxs and Murphy.

1990 was a highly productive year for Crionics, with the release of two megademos as well as the trackmos NeverWhere and Total Destruction. Even though they were all solid productions, Crionics somehow never seemed to have the final bit of luck needed to win a competition, often ending up in second or third place. Only NeveWhere managed to win the competition it was entered into.

Things were quiet around Crionics in 1991. Then, in December, they entered the demo competition at The Party in Denmark with Hardwired. This time, they had joined forces with Mikael Balle and Jepser Kyd from the Danish division of The Silents. Would this finally be their moment to win a major competition? Sadly, no! Hardwired was — and still is — considered one of the best Amiga demos ever, but it failed to beat Alcatraz’ Odyssey. The debate over which demo truly deserved the win raged on for months.

Besides the commercial release CAT in March 1992, Hardwired would be the last official Crionics release. Several members moved into the game industry. The Spy, Deftronic, Kyd & Balle even shared an apartment, primarily to focus on game development.
