Interview
Conquest: Hello MOBY!! You're one of the most popular musician on the Amiga scene and you've also been involved there for a while so we would like to know a bit more about you... First of all, introduce yourself quickly.
Moby: Well, I'm now 22, I've been composing on amiga for nearly five years now. I'm a hairy monster (more than Cougar/Sanity (Hi Christian !)). I love playing rhythm and blues with my band (I left the drums... I'm now on the bass guitar!). I am a Stephen King freak. I love beer (especially Belgian ones...). I watch about 7-8 episodes of The Simpsons a day. Is it quick enough??
Conquest: Tell us what you do need to compose some musics (hardware) and where you do get your inspiration from?
Moby: My hardware consists of an amiga 500 + A590 HD + 3Meg + sampler + Midi plugs + 3 synths (Elka EK44, Korg M3R, Roland SC55). I like to be alone when I compose. I often have to use my headphones because my neighboors really don't like to hear my tunes at night. Unluckily for them, I prefer composing at night... And they really disturb me when they knock on the wall! I really don't know where does my inspiration come from... I guess a bit from the music I listen to (rhythm and blues, heavy metal, jazz rock) and probably a bit from my favourite amiga musicians too...
Conquest: Now, it's time to remind us your whole Amiga history!
Moby: As you may know, my first team was Impact Inc. (1987) After the release of my first music disk, I joined Apology (1989), a short-lived crew, which died after his first megademo. Then I joined Dragons (no doubt it was my biggest error!) who were really not staying cool at any time! And then, I got caught in Alcatraz. (1990) I escaped in the middle of 1991, after the release of More Than Music and the Music disk #1. From this day, I became a DreamDealer. And I'm still dealing dreams today, for quite a long time, I'm sure...
Conquest: Can you speak about your activities and your projects among your own group or is it SECRET DEFENSE?
Moby: Well, I guess I can tell you a bit... We plan to release a trackmo around Christmas. The Drink Charts must have also been released by the time you read this... I think a little music disk from my friend Chrylian and me should be available around Christmas too... By the way, we, in Dreamdealers, welcome five new members. They are: Asymptotic (ex-PMC - Coder), Chrylian (ex-Proton Ltd - Musician), Hexogen (ex-PMC - Coder), Rhah (ex-PMC - Graphician), TKB (ex-Devils - Coder). We managed to get the most talented people from the french PMC section. They were really fed up with this little slimy stupid thing called Thanatos. I'm also trying to get some money to buy an amiga for Corto! He must code the Substance 2, the music is nearly ready!
Conquest: What is your goal on Amiga? Have you ever thought about quiting the demo scene to become professional?
Moby: My goal is to have fun! At least on the scene. I'm already working professionally for a french software company called Atreid Concept. My work isn't limited to amiga music. I made some game musics for PC, MacIntosh, Atari, Amstrad (beuh...), C64 (yeah !), NeXT and also some CD-Rom things on synths recorded in studio. I think some work on consoles should be released before the end of this year, too...
Conquest: What do you think about the french scene? Can you explain why? To your mind, where is the best scene in Europe?
Moby: The French scene is a bit hard to analyze because there are a lot of cool teams (like TSB, Willow, Anarchy, Silents, Syntex, Alliance Design, Los Heretikos, and much more) but also a lot of dickheads (like in Devils, EOC 1999, Intryx...). (I won't make only friends with this interview I guess ! But who cares !?!) A lot of guys take the scene to seriously. They spend their time to criticize each other. Well, a bit of criticism isn't bad, but some assholes are ready to start a civil war if you just tell them you don't like what they do! (Hi Thanatos/Ex-PMC) It's so stupid! I really don't know where is the best scene cos' I don't know any other!
Conquest: Give us your opinion about piracy on Amiga?
Moby: To my mind, piracy is Ok to see games before buying them. Then you can make your choice. But when it comes to abos and fast modem trading, I really don't like that. The guys who sell cracks are just motherfuckers.
Conquest: Who are your favorite coders, musicians, graphicians, swappers, demos?
Moby:
Coders: Slayer/Scoopex, Corto/Alliance Design, Ronan/Anarchy and of course Redlight/Dreamdealers.
Musicians: Bruno, Heatbeat, Walkman, Uncle Tom, Audiomomster, Nuke, Chrylian, Filipetto, Delorean, Jester, Oistein Eide and a few others...
Graphicians: Hof/Silents, Uno/Scoopex, Mack/Pasteque Dezign, Cougar/Sanity & Havok/Sanity.
Swappers: Swappers? What's that? (hehe)
Demos: DOS/Andromeda (Best demo I've ever seen!), Elysium/Sanity, Hot Dots/Coma, HardWired/Silents, Multica/Andromeda & Mental Hangover/Scoopex...
Conquest: What do you think about Amiga parties? Do you often show up to parties? What is the best one you have visited?
Moby: I loooooooove parties. For the moment, I only visited parties in France and around France. I'll be at The Party II if there's one this year! The best party I've visited was the Garden Party, organised by the Heretiques. This was a wonderful party. There were no competitions, it was just a friendship meeting and it was major cool! Entrance only with invitation, only cool people. We had great fun! The worst was the TRSI party in Leuven. This fuckin' Tekno shit they were playing was unbearable, so everybody went outside. Anyway, I met there a bunch of cool guys too!
Conquest: Now, we'll leave scene topics to have a look at real life! Are you satisfied with the politics in France? If you have an idea, would you change something to it??
Moby: I hate politics... Situation in France is not that bad. I don't really know if it would be better with some other people at the government... (But it could be worse with JM Le Pen (fuck the neo-nazi!))
Conquest: Do you like to watch SACREE SOIREE and why?
Moby: No. This show is nearly as stupid as this question!!!
Conquest: Ok! What are your favourite among the following?
Moby:
Drink: Beer and Flamin' Moe
Food: Pizzas and Donuts
Dance: Mosh, Headbangin' and Bartman.
Holiday place: My Bed and SpringField
Movie: Brazil, Wayne's World & Space Mutants VII
LP: Master of Puppets / METALLICA & The Simpsons Sing the Blues / The SIMPSONS
Magazine: Fluide Glacial & The Simpsons Illustrated
Girls: Myriam, my lovely girlfriend.
Condoms: Hollywood Chewing Gum
Conquest: Well, this is nearly the end so you can now greet your friends!
Moby: So hello to all my contacts all over the world! Thanx for your patience (I know my delay is something!!!).
Conquest: Of course, you also must send one or two little fucks...hehe!! And do you have a last message?
Moby: Well, the biggest fuck will be for Devils, the lamest team in France and I guess in the whole Europe! This team is made of assholes who think they are professional demomakers, but they only are close to nothing! They have tried to hide their incapability to organize the Beach Party by accusing Rhah (the ex-main organizer of this party) and some other people (like you and me, dear Conquest... hehehe) of being trouble makers... Stop spreading bullshit on other persons when you already are a heap of bullshit yourselves!!
Another fuck to Thanatos/PMC for being so stupid and so proud of his shitty work. (By the way, I really love PMC, except its lame french section...)
I must apologize to Delorean, Jester and Sir Monkey. You guyz will get a letter soon ! (If you still don't have received it by now !) To the guy from Croatia who wrote to me: be sure to get an answer as soon as I will find back your letter!
