As I met you at the IRIS NYC 92 party, I decided to give you an opportunity to tell all the truth about the guy behind this handle and any kind of topics relating him. How long have you been working on Amiga? Can you speak a bit about your career as Gfx artist? |
| Elmer: |
I've been now working on Amiga for 3 years and about my career it's not so interesting! At the beginning,I was drawing pictures for my own pleasure and one day I contacted a guy called Dark Knight who immediately asked me to enter his group called SYNERGY. So I changed my name from Twilight to Neuron. Later, we created SYMBIOISIS in collaboration with DEFEAT and I took my actual name. I contributed to a few productions and one day, Thomas Landspurg asked me to participate to his newest demo... |
| Conquest: |
How did you manage to work with him? Do you think the fame of Virtual World changed your scene life? |
| Elmer: |
One day, a friend of mine called Rush asked Thomas if he needed any gfx but he answered no. A few month later, Thomas asked if still agree to do some Gfx cause he was starting a demo. I accepted and told him that I was going to the Amega party in Norway, so that I would be able to bring the demo and enter the competition. Thomas agreed and he even managed to join me when in Porsgrun! And the demo had the fame ya know. This success had a great influence on my scene life. I was totally unknown before and then guys began to write to me. Many people may say that I only contributed to one famous demo and I say OK. The fact is that I'm ready to contribute to any demo if I'm asked to. I also have a lot of projects but I need a coder to execute them, I've made lots of work unused yet. It's waiting on my disks... |
| Conquest: |
Well! I hope you're keeping your disks tidy Elmer! Car si c'est comme celuide l'interview...(Rires!!). Ok..Tell us what's going on in your mysterious group now! |
| Elmer: |
SYMBIOSIS was created last year (or two years ago, I can't remember). We had a lot of members (about 40) and many of them were inactive. Now we are only 19 or 20 and it's really better. We kicked out a lot of members and most of them were and are still cool guys! We've a few members abroad like Norway, Germany, Sweden and (but I'm not really sure) Australia. Now about our projects: I will reveal you some of them even if I know it's dangerous for my life! The Cyborg demo consists in 4 disks full of nice raytraced animations telling a great story about wild sausages!! A megademo called Necronomicon consider this as a real scoop! A musicdisk called Blackout with the contribution of some of the best musicians in France (Audiomonster, Moby, Reflex, ...) and finally my slideshow which should have been released a long time ago if it wasn't always delayed. |
| Conquest: |
Thanks a lot for those news, hope it won't cost your life! Have you ever thought of working for game companies in the future? |
| Elmer: |
Actually, I don't know. I'm making a game with my friend Rush (coder in SYMBIOSIS...(he's also a coder!?)), but I don't really think I'll make Gfx for game companies. I have some other projects. I'm going to buy soon a more powerfull hardware (A2000, GVP, Syquest, 24 bit, ...) so that I will be able to spend more time in raytracing. That's really a passion and I spend most of my time with Real 3D (1.4 PRO.. great stuff!). That's why I have to work before buying all this hardware. |
| Conquest: |
Good luck for bingo!! What will you say on the recent changes in France lately? |
| Elmer: |
I think it's always moving. I've just heard a few minutes ago that TSL France was reborn, that there were a lot of changes in Rebels France (well, it's dead!), that Alliance Design is also going to sumbit some changes... Nearly everyday the situation is different. When this interview will be published, things will certainly not be the same... Anyway, the french scene has been improving a lot and it became very cool! |
| Conquest: |
You probably have some favourites amongst the world scene! Who are they? |
| Elmer: |
Hard to say! I've got so many that the list will be too long... There are so many cool guys you know, anyway, here are some names in no order: Uno, JOE, Color, TMB Design, Havok... for Gfx as you may have guessed. Moby, Rhesus minus, Audiomonster, Walkman, Romeo Knight, Uncle Tom. The Spy, TEC, Sim, Thomas Landspurg for the code. |
| Conquest: |
What do you think about CRUSADERS ending the Eurocharts? |
| Elmer: |
That's a pity... it was a cool concept even if it was too often contested I admire the publishers for their great work but they must have turned totally crazy now! |
| Conquest: |
Ok... let's leave Amiga topics for a while! What kind of music do you listen to? and what kind of movies do you particularly enjoy? |
| Elmer: |
About the music, I already spoke of it before! But I repeat to try Kansas (nothing to do with Texas...), it's really amazing. About movies, I like as normal Amiga freak, the StarWars trilogy. Do you know that they're going to make the 4th, 5th and 6th part of it? But the first one will be released in 97, the second one in 99 and the third one in 2001! (I'm not joking...). Other movies I especially enjoy at the moment are the LP cartoons from Japan. It's a kind of perfection from every point of view. Animation, story, backgrounds, everything is wonderful and violence is often at its height, just as I like. |

Everybody is wondering if you're working again on the follow up to Virtual World... can you say something about this? |
| Elmer: |
Well, Thomas told me that Virtual World was probably going to be his last demo and furthermore he certainly doesn't have anytime at the moment! |
| Conquest: |
What a pity but I understand that Thomas must be busy with his new job. Well... we've spoken of many different things so it is time for you to add something if you need to and to greet some of your friends. |
| Elmer: |
I send Hot Hellos to the following guys... JOE/S!P of TRSI, Moby of DREAMDEALERS, Audiomonster and TMB Design/SILENTS, Reflex/ATLANTYS, Hof/ALLIANCE DESIGN, Marvel, Minion, Lord Helmet/PMC, Rush, Fletch, and Swoly/TSB, and all other members of SYMBIOSIS... and the ones I forgot. If you want some Gfx for your demo, if you want to have fun or if you're a lovely blond girl then write to: ELMER/SYS, HUGUES GIBOIRE, Gabelou, 35830 BETTON, FRANCE. If you want to have a nice chat, dial: +33 99 55 87 06 That's all folx! So I say you good bye and thanks to you Conquest! |

Thank you for your cool answers Elmer! Hope to meet you during another party! Bye by now.... |
