Hi Soeren and Jakob. |
| Jade & Hannibal: |
Hejsa! |
| Quackbuster: |
Recently you moved to England to work for Core Design LTD. So what's it like working "seriously" with your Amigas? |
| Jade & Hannibal: |
It is certainly more of a challenge than writing demos. First of all, you need to know what you want to do, you can't just wait till you link it all together. And we had to learn completely new ways of working. |
| Quackbuster: |
Are you working Nine-to-Five or are your hours more flexible than that? |
| Jade & Hannibal: |
Well, officially we are, but as this is our first project, and as we want to do as good a job as possible, it has been more like nine to eleven (in the evening), and near the end it has been nine to nine (the next day), seven days a week. |
| Quackbuster: |
Please tell the readers a bit about your current gameprojects. |
| Jade & Hannibal: |
WE HAVE DONE IT!! We just finished off our first game, called Banshee, in the start of July, and are now going to find out what to do next. One thing is for sure, though. It is NOT going to be on the Amiga or the CD32 (32-Bit Power my butt! With a blitter running the same speed as the A-500 one. And thats official (Well, Commodore told us that)). Hopefully we will work on Sega Mars/Saturn or Sony PS-X. And that is REAL 32-bit power (probably 20-100 times the power of the A1200/CD32). |
| Quackbuster: |
When is the planned releasedate for your first game? |
| Jade & Hannibal: |
It was 14/7-94, and as the game was finished at that time, we did it in time. There were some nasty bugs right at the end of the project, which could have screwed it up royal, but we found them. Even though the game only had been on the streets for 3 days in UK, it went straight to no. 1 on the weekly Gallup-chart for both CD32 and A1200. |
| Quackbuster: |
For how long have you planned to stay in England? |
| Jade & Hannibal: |
Till we get bored! Naah, we don't know. At the moment we are having fun writing games, so why stop? But we won't stay forever. |
| Quackbuster: |
If you had to compare the average Amiga graphician or coder to those at software firm, who would you say is the better? |
| Jade & Hannibal: |
The software firm, that is for sure. You can't use Boris pictures in a game and it takes quite a lot more to animate characters than to draw single frames of them. It is the same thing about programming. It is not a big problem to spend two days on each effect in a demo, compared to spending six months getting a whole game-engine together, where everything has to interact. Especially with the demos of today: Design, design, a crap effect, and a bit of design again. |
| Quackbuster: |
At The Party III (You Can't Beat The Feeling) you released the five meg Monty Python demo called 'PikPatNos II'. How long did it take you to finish and how on earth do one get a crazy idea like that? |
| Jade & Hannibal: |
It took us probably about two weeks work to do it, after Futuremind had scanned in all of the animation, and converted it for us. Well, we mainly spent it pissing around with the system-legal programming. The idea came when we saw "242", and I found an old routine, which did practically the same, improved it, and there you have it! We wanted to write a funny demo, not a boring one. Now I realise that we should of course have used some dancing women, otherwise you will never win anything. |
| Quackbuster: |
Your demos are always made with a little "twinkle in the eye". Do you think that the scene has become far too serious nowadays? With gigantic, moneymaking parties and the likes, I mean. |
| Jade & Hannibal: |
OH NO! Well, there are groups only releasing demos at competitions, when they are sure to win, there are groups that can't take a joke (Hi Seen!), groups that arrange parties for the money, groups that put pressure on the members, members that work more than they like, and therefore haven't got a life at all. And you are right now looking at another really serious thing, the "official" Eurochart, and all the other diskmags as well. I can imagine the amount of work required to release a diskmag, so there. But there are a few guys around, who are still having fun writing a few effects, and releasing something when they like. I think. Well, perhaps not. |
| Quackbuster: |
Jade, you seem to focus alot on sex in your pictures and logos. Would you say that you are perverted in any way or are you just trying to provoke? |
| Jade & Hannibal: |
Perverted?!? Yes of course! (He is pretty horny sometimes, and it is just lovely. -Hannibal) |
| Quackbuster: |
Jade, your competitionpicture in Herning was that of a beast raping a girl. Was that your personal comment to the neverending debate about a dragon and a naked girl always winning the competitions? |
| Jade & Hannibal: |
Hmm, yes and no. Originally it was meant to be Boris V. being raped by a big purple transvestite, but I could not get hold of any transvestite nude photos to scan (or transfer with my transparent over-lay grid (a must for all REAL demo graphic artists)). |
| Quackbuster: |
And now for the inevitable question! Will we ever see another demo from the two of you? What about the project '3D demo III'? Has it been abandoned? |
| Jade & Hannibal: |
We actually released it, but only 25 copies which were sent out to various shops in Australasia. After that we did 3D Demo IV, which was a 40k intro, but later that month we did 2D Demo I, which was linked together with 4D Demo VII, which ofcourse gave 6D Demo VIII. 3D Demo V was cancelled because of lack of dancing girls in Noerre Vedby and the dancing cows in 2D Demo III was actually just the same as the ones we used in 5 Hands, our latest demo using the same routines as ever. We will probably not do any more demos, as I tried to code a Eurochart intro but after a day, I lost interest in it, so I stopped (Sorry guys!). I simply didn't enjoy it any more. (but what about all that gfx I have done for 34 Feet 0D+1/2 Demo IXXVIM?? -JADE) But one day there might be another KanniJade Krew/Lemon. production around. You never know (Unless you have been Tango'ed!). |
| Quackbuster: |
OK, Jade and Hannibal, thank you for answering this short interview. If you have any weird thoughts, greetings or whatever, then please feel free to write them just below. |
