Interview
McDisk: Hi Martyn! Let us start with some personal infos about you. Tell us your age, name and function and something about your school/work.
Facet: I'm 17 years old, 18 by the time this mag will be released. My name is Facet and I'm doing graphics in a team called Anarchy and before I forget, I'm also doing some mail and graphics swapping with very nice guys living in Europe and only for friendship.
McDisk: I know you are quite a long time in the scene. Please tell our readers your way through the scene. List the groups you were in, what you liked and disliked and why you finally joined Anarchy.
Facet: My first group was Vision and since they were a bit lazy I joined other groups but stayed in Vision. Those groups were Rebels and Absence. Because I was still in Vision I never got in for real. That was also the reason I had to leave Rebels, I got the choise to join Rebels and leave Vision or leave Rebels and stay in Vision. My final choise was that I left Rebels and stayed in Vision.
The main reason I joined Anarchy a few months ago was because members lost interest in the demoscene and started modeming and stopped activities a bit. Since I knew a lot of Anarchy members already, I made the choise to ask for membership. And within a week I was a proud Anarchist and I hope I will be one forever!
McDisk: I'm sure everybody has seen some graphics from you in several demos etc. Please point out how you paint your gfx. Do you get your inspirations from books, or do you paint all your gfx without any inspirations? Do you use things like scanners or digitizers?
Facet: I have loads of books and use them to get inspiration. I also use them to paint pictures from. Sometimes, when I haven't got any inspiration I just start to paint. In most of these cases it works out very well. It is also that I'm busy with gfx all day. It's not that I draw when I see DPaint but I'm drawing all day. I look around, see things, think of how I could draw them and at home I try it. I never use any other form than a mouse to develope a picture.
McDisk: Say some words about the organisation and friendship in Anarchy.
Facet: The organisation and friendship in Anarchy is in one word, perfect! All members have great respect for each other and everybody is informed perfectly. We also keep each other informed/updated with the lastest work and send new graphics, music, previews to each other. So I know what's going on in Anarchy right now. This is very good for motivation and friendship. Anarchy is a real team with a perfect managment and that is what I want.
McDisk: What do you think about the scene today, 2 years ago and how could the future look in some years?
Facet: It has changed a lot, many guys have lost faith in the scene and some even sold their computer. I know that I cared more about the scene 2 years ago than I do now, but I still have faith in it and just love it when I see guys coming back into the scene. Hi 4-mat! I also think the year 1992 will be a good year for the amiga-demofreaks.
McDisk: I know you've a girlfriend. Do you make a difference between your 'scene live' and your normal live?
Facet: No. But what did happen to me since I have this steady relation is that I realise that I've spoiled a lot of time behind my screen. But that won't keep me from being as productive as I was before because I draw for fun.
McDisk: Please tell us your favourite coder, Gfxman, musician, diskmag and group. Please give also a short statement to the several points.
Facet: These are difficult questions since I have so many favorites. Ok! Ok! My favourites are:
Coders: Dan, TSM, Rush, Icronite, Critical Mass, Performer, Ronan and Sunjohn... Hhm almost all are Anarchy coders...
Gfxman: Color, Uno, Havok, Mystik, Krest, Fairfax, Mitrandir, Hein Design and my French brother Zoom.
Musicians: Tip+Mantronix, Nuke, 4-mat, Hein, Audiomonster, Bruno and Omega.
Diskmags: RAW, Mcdisk, ICE, Zine.
McDisk: What kind of music do you like? What's your opinion about new styles of music like Techno and Rave?
Facet: I like music with feeling, music like U2, Lisa Standfiels, Depeche Mode, Level 42, Simply Red, Simple Minds and Wet Wet Wet. Techno and Rave is great music when you're in the mood for it. At least, it is in my opinion. I can not, for instance wake up and listen to it. But when I go to a pub it's just great.
McDisk: Now I'll give you some expressions. Please give me in a short way your opinions about it.
Facet: - Uno/Scoopex: A very good graphician from who I haven't seen much lately. His style is very clean and his colors are well picked. He draws like a painter on a piece of paper. - Zine: A good magazine with the right formula. It isn't the only one anymore. I'm waiting for the next one guys! - Hardwired: This is really a great demo. I think this demo is the best amiga demo at the moment. A lot of Demos in the year 1992 will look a bit like this one. - Odyssey: This is a masterpiece, too. I was quite impressed when I saw the space chase part with the great music and sfx. A great demo with a lot of work! - Mithrandir A very good graphician who made great pictures when I drew my first 8*8 font. - McDisk A nice magazine with nice articles. It is my true opinion about this magazine and I'm glad you interviewed me for it. - Facet Eh? That's me! Well I can say I'm very active at the moment and will maybe work for a well known game-company very soon. I also have faith in the amiga-scene and think 1992 will be a productive and busy year for me. With a lot of pixels. I also will continue loving my lovely girl who is a great moral-support and helps me in bad times.
McDisk: List things you like?
Facet: At the moment I like the most to spend time with Judith. I also like to listen to music, to hang around with my friends, to be on the phone with guys and at last I like to draw.
McDisk: List things you dislike?
Facet: I do not like having rows, misunderstandings, too, much home-work and main editors who use their function to put guys in a bad daylight, the one in person is Lord Helmet of RAW.
McDisk: Ok, hope I haven't stressed you too much with this questions. Now you've some free byte to write some messages or whatever you like.
Facet: Well, I can write 300 lines with messages to all my friends... So, I'll just list the names ok? Tip, Mantronix, Dan, Nuke, Judge Drokk, Blo, Rush, Omega, Red Devil, Mirage, Vision, Fairfax, Krest, Mystik, Color, Zoom, Mace, Jester, Tomcat, Madcap, Mic Dair, Moxy, Icronite, Conquest, Surfer, Trix, Desire, and to all I had to name here... I also want to thank you, Head, for interviewing me. And thanks for the phonecalls.
McDisk: Thanks you for this interview and have a nice day...
