Our beloved maineditor has visited The Gathering 1994 in Norway and here is his report of that event. The third Gathering was held in a sportshall called "Rykkinhallen", a little bit outside Oslo in Norway. The hall was a little bit too small for the 2000 attenders of this party. The arrangers had to hire a big heated tent so people could have a place to sleep in. But it was too small, so it was most often totally full. And since this was a "very good" arranged party, the fire department had forbidden people to sleep in the mainhalls. That meant that many people had no choice but to be awake. This party was as I said not very good arranged. Some examples are power failures every twenty minutes, firedepartment informing the day before the party, all competitions delayed, bugging bigscreen and much more that really annoyed people visiting. The organiser even considered closing down the party during the first day! Another thing that many people got upset of was the food supplies. I mean, the stores in the local area were closed since it was easter, and the cafeteria in the partyplace just sold Cheeseurgers and pizza. A little Cheeseburger cost 36 NOK! That's as much as a BigMac, Frenchfries and a CocaCola cost all together in Sweden, which is not known to be a cheap country... Anyway, many people were there. Most of the known guys from the Norwegian, Swedish and Danish scene were there. Groups present were Razor 1911, Spaceballs, Andromeda, Balance, Polka Brothers, Kefrens, Movement, Stone Arts, Talent, Scoopex, Banana Design, Alcatraz, Cryptoburners and many more... There were not many releases before the compos, Balance released Upstream #8 and Depth released a chipmusicpack. That is not many releases for a party. Stone Arts were also working on Headline #2 but it was not finished in time... The graphics compo was rather average with only 6 good pictures in my eyes. Fairfax/Andromeda won before Tony/Razor 1911 and Archmage/Andromeda with a picture of a cool madmans face. The music compo was really good because the jury consisted of a lot of famous musicians so the were almost only good tunes in the final. The intro compo was a disappointment with only 4 good intros: Stone Arts (NOT the winning one!), Spaceballs, Offence and Razor 1911. The Spaceballs intro was the best in my eyes. The demo compo was better with great demos from Cryptoburners and Polka Brothers but some not soo good demos from Equinox and Talent also that should have not be shown... All in all, the arrangement sucked, but it was a funny party anyway because of all the guys that were present. Perhaps a bit too long but anyway, you got enough time to meet everybody you wanted to meet. I will for sure be at The Gathering 1995 if there will be a Gathering 1995.
