The Party IV, perhaps the last, but certainly the least. One more time, (nearly) the whole scene has decided to meet again. It is now a tradition, like celebrating christmas, sceners celebrate The Party. This time it was number four, held in Messecenter Herning, the most promising, and according to me, the most deceiving... This year, 3 buses came from Paris, organised by Mentasm (Thanks Kyle!), Gods and Shadocks, and Slaine of Ivory: The French scene was really present. The arrival was at 7h00 a.m., after 19 hours of travel. The same place than 93 but still impressive. In fact, it was the right size to welcome nearly 2700 dudes (less than The Party 3!). The first thing to talk about is the Coca-Cola drinking compo, the first day, while groups were trying to finish their work before the deadlines. There were about 10 persons in front of the big screen, trying to drink 1 liter and half of Coca-Cola in a very short delay... The record is 47 seconds. Well done guy! The "all night DJ show" was simply bad, so it gave me time to sleep. After this, the multi-channel compo was hit by an old 4-channels tune by Moby, built up with vibes reverberation. During the afternoon, the music compo took place. A jury of 3 musicians (without a good ear in my opinion) had selected the tunes before competiting. Results? Only techno modules invading the hall! It produced whistlings due to the lack of originality... A petition has been done by angry French dudes (Hi Doh, Clawz, Pib!), it was signed by well-known sceners, just to make the organizers understand. Really many signings collected. It was not a music competition, but a techno show! Notice that Doh/DRD was not selected with his western music, while he was ranked third in 92 and fifth in 93... (Don't worry Doh, we LOVE you!) The Amiga (rules!) intro compo was just cool! Good productions, and funny ones... Polka Brothers and Passion were at a top-level (Hi Passion! We don't only think that Dansktoppen is wonderfull, your intro too, but we aren't licking your shoes, it's only a report! :-) -Jibe/Ram Jam) Now let's talk about another flop of the party: The gfx compo. 62 of 152 pictures were selected by a lame jury. The competition ended with a shouting of rage because of the fact that some graphicians were not presented (Ra, Suny and so many...). A horde of angry sceners blamed the organizers, so they decided to recognize their mistake, and to restart the compo by showing all the 152 pictures. Finally Ra was ranked at the second place! (Hey! Hey!) The same problem occured with the Pc Demo compo... No problem with the other compos, hopefully cool productions have compensated for the shitty organizing. One more fact is that the C64 demos competiting were really impressive for this old machine. Finally, the entrance price was too high compared to the quality of the party, like food (!)... A big problem was the mistakes and the technical fuckups of the party... Another problem was the amount of steals in the hall: Raiser of Ram Jam lost his external drive but he is lucky, because there were many A1200, PC, A4000/030 stolen... The last word of this article is a sentence from Arthy/Nova: "The Party 4: Money inside, Fun and Friendship outside".
