LIMITED SUCCESS AT DANISH SUMMERPARTY - But we'll try against next year, the organizers say after this summers party event in Denmark. The organisation was almost perfect, but not enough people attended. The South Sealand Demoparty was held from the 26th to the 28th of June by the Danish group Focus Design. Time and place The party took up 3 sunny days in the little town of Vordingborg, placed in the farest part of South-Sealand. The arrangement was placed in a school which could with it's main-hall and class-rooms easily have housed 500 scene-people. The surroundings were also quite perfect, a quiet neighbourhood, but with excellent shopping-facilities nearby and if one desired to play a game of soccer (and many did), that was possible as well. The sleeping-facilities were almost perfect, the basement, in which one was supposed to sleep in, was quiet and there were couches and madresses which one could sleep on. Said in short: The place was as good as it could get... To come or not to come The party needed 300 attenders to be able to provide full prizes for all competitions. Unfortunatly only about half of that amount showed up. When the first 100 people had showed up, the entrance-fee from rest of the people attending would go to the prizes. A list with regular updates on the number of people was put up and especially Dr. Skull/Virtual Dreams was quite interested in seeing this list expand. All in all about 170 people arrived... Over 200 had send in registrations and it's rather lousy that THEY didn't show up, but we suppose that's quite normal for most parties. The party mainly consisted of Danes, excpet from the 3 Virtual Dreams members from Finland (Dr. Skull, Jaco & Alien) who was going on an interrail-trip after the party. Bored? No problemo! If one should get bored by partying, the party offered a video-room which was actually magnificent seen in relation to how big the party was expected to be. This mini-cinema was running on laser-disc and featured really good surround-sound. The movies shown were also very nice and among the new movies shown (Ace Ventura etc.) an extended version of T2 was shown, the movies featured 16 minutes extra with some extra computer-effects. Good organizing There's not really a lot to organize when about 170 persons showed up, and one must say that the party ran smoothly from the beginning. The competitions were held in time andthere were no real problems at all. Besides that the organizers themselfes didn't suffer from any kind of megalomania which one can unfortunatly experience on some of the bigger parties. The competitions Despite the fact that only half the people expected showed up, it was amazing to see so many contributions in the competitions. The 40k-competition was cancelled to give bigger prizes in the other competitions and nobody protested about this. Not only the amount of contributions was surprising, but also the quality was a pleasant surprise. Virtual Dreams' demo "Love" was released and one shouldn't have expected to see a big demo like that one such a small party. To see the results, look on the final page. Hurricane-curse broken Seen in relation to the number of visitors this was really a successful party, and one must certainly say that it broke the "Hurricane-curse" which undoubtedly have scared potential party-arrangers from carrying their plans out. Also the organizers are quite satisfied with the arrangement, and Mazzachre, the main-organizer, had no doubt when we asked him if there would be a second South Sealand Demoparty. - Yes. We definitly want to try again next year, he said. The final touch Even though most people did have a good time a the party one could surely have wished for more people to attend, and just why didn't that many come to the party. A fact which is undeniable, is that the name (The fame of the name... Huh?) has a great influence, but even though that could mean something, the spreading of invitations and information, or in general the PR, was not satisfactory.
