Interview
Here we've got it! An interview with the notorious Dice of Kefrens. We have finally managed to get an interview through with this weird musician.

Upstream: Well Klaus, I might know you a little, but I think you'd better introduce yourself a little to the readers... You know... Age, real name, other hobbies, function etc. Well.... JUST SAY SOMETHING!
Dice: Well, I was born some 18 years ago in Glostrup, DK, my real name is Klaus Nielsen (I've also got a middle name, but it sounds shitty, so I'm not gonna tell you what it is). About other hobbies, I play a bit of pool once in a while. Except that, nothing really.
Upstream: I guess you have been a member of other groups before Kefrens. Could you tell us which one(s), and what you did for them in that time?
Dice: OK, here we go... I started out about 3 years ago now, in a group called Ascension. I was a complete lamer, just like all the other members. We had a lot of fun though, and it was nice actually being a member of a group at that time. But I eventually realised that Ascension propably wasn't the group of my dreams (you can say that again), so I joined Direct. That was definately the biggest mistake in my time in the scene. They were ignorant, didn't have any sence of humor what so ever, and they kicked me out after a week because I was into skateboarding at that time. There were only one of the guys in Direct that I liked, but I can't remember his name anymore. So I joined Upfront, propably known as the most inactive group in the scene. At first I was glad to have joined Upfront, 'cause I had been like a fan of them on the C64, but after a while I realised that they weren't all that cool on the Amiga. I was a member of Upfront for almost a year and a half, and we only released Plastic Passion at The Party '91 (the music sucks, sorry). I got fed up with sitting in Upfront doing nothing, so I left for Kefrens. Kefrens is by far the best group I've ever been a member of. It's nice to be in a group where almost all of the members are active, and where the friendship is good.
Upstream: When did you first begin to get interested in computing?
Dice: I think it was in 1984 when my uncle bought himself a C64. I was hooked from the minute I saw it, and I immediately started saving money to buy one of my own. After a couple of years I lost interest in it, but when I saw the amiga I tripped again. I bought my first Amiga in 1989.
Upstream: Did the musicical interest come along with the computer or have you always been interested in music or even played?
Dice: Playing games all the time gets boring (except when I'm playing with Zeus or Airwalk), so you start looking for something else to waste your time with. I picked music. I didn't play any kind of instrument before I started composing on the amiga, but I play a bit of piano now.
Upstream: Have you got any kind of special sound equipment like synths and stuff like that?
Dice: I've got a Roland D-5 (it's broken and it sucks), but I'm planing on buying a Korg 01/W and an Alesis drum-mashine within the next three months.
Upstream: Do you have any ideal or source of inspiration on either the scene or in real life?
Dice: Not really, but I admire the work of people like: Sting, Vangelis, Depeche Mode, Jean michel jarre and Mike Oldfield. I also get some inspiration from various tecno-artists.
Upstream: Do you think that you'll ever begin to expand your music in a commercial direction, like Bjørn "Dr. Awesome" Lynne, or will you keep on having it as a hobbie?
Dice: Definately. I can't place myself in a job that doesn't concern music (except ruler of the world). Of course it would be nice to make a living making music, but there are alot of good musicians, so let's not loose our head shall we.
Upstream: Rumours say that you are currently doing a musicdisk with some other Kefrens members, could you tell us a little about that?
Dice: It's named Clairaudiance, and it's gonna be made by me (music), Vention (code) and Airwalk (graphics). I started planning this musicdisk almost a year ago, but I'm a lazy ass, so it's been somewhat delayed (hmm?!).
Upstream: There have lately been some heavy debates about sample-ripping. What's your opinion on this topic?
Dice: Well, I think it's quite ok to r.i.p samples, as long as it's not the typical mantronix/tip sounds. Ofcause it's not a good idea to rip all the samples from one piece of music either, but that's up to the individual. Besides, people without a synth, soundmodule or good contacts really have no choice.
Upstream: Hwo much would you consider youself involved in the scene?
Dice: Quite much. I try to attend all the biggest parties, and I use practicly all my sparetime with my Amiga (except in the weekends where I go beserk (get drunk, that is). School and work takes up time too though, so my time with the computer is very limmited.
Upstream: So, what kind of education are you taking?
Dice: I'm studying at the Gymnasium in Odder (Highschool). It sucks, but there's no way around it. I'll be a student in a year from now, so I'm through the worst.
Upstream: What would you like to become when you grow up? ;-)
Dice: Photografer for Playboy magasine
Upstream: Okay, I will mention a few words which I'd like you to comment...
Dice:
Hip-Hop: Funky, some of it is really good (not all though)
Heavy: I've only got fourletter-words for this kind of music, so I think it's gonna be a "No Comment".
Melon.: A fruit containing over 90 percent of water. Very tasty indeed.
Ankh: The ancient Egyptian symbol of eternity. Looks nice too.
Compatibility: I guess your refering to the less compatible productions by Kefrens. I can just say that we're working on it (Desert Dream was a step in the right direction).
Dessert Cream: What's that? an anti-demo? If it is, I've never seen it
Chaos: A german coder suffering from severe megalomanoia.
Balance: Who?!? (just kidding)
Rules!: Play by your own.
Upstream: Okay now, ask yourself a question and answer it.
Dice: What's the meaning of life? I have no idea.
Upstream: Are there any people on the scene who you really hate?
Dice: I had a hard time coping with the neonazis at the TCC in sweden, except them, nope.
Upstream: What's YOUR opinion on friendship on today scene?
Dice: It's better than ever before. The relationship between the groups in the scene is very strong, and the amount of wars have decreased (hi melon).
Upstream: Well, I have always wanted to be interviewed, would you do a little one with me?
Dice: Why is it you think that you're ever gonna beat me in sensible suckup?
Upstream: Simply because I'm better than you. The only reason I didn't win at the TCC, was that I didn't want to spoil the party for you. Just try to read the Alternative news...
Dice: Tell me how to make tasty pancakes.
Upstream: Okay! First you take a bowl and put flour in it. Thn a little suckar and vanilla-suckar. Mix it together with some milk and use 2-4 eggs depending on the portion. THEN the dough is finished and your ready to make it on a pan. Just put butter on it, put a little portion of the dough on it and gently spread it over the pan. When the pancake have baked 1 to t anf half minute, you just turn it and give the other side the same turn. Put the finished pancake on a plate and it's ready to consume. I can tell you that this WORKS and that it tasted marvelous, just try.
Dice: Is it really nice to answer all these questions?
Upstream: Oooooh, I love it. I wish I could be interviewed some more, but I guess we have to carry on with the interview, so here goes... Think fast, and come up with some people whom you'd like to say hello to.
Dice: Cindy Crawford, Superfrog and the Monty Python gang. (Yeah! -ed.)
Upstream: Yeah, and with this I think we're about to stop. Do you have anything which you'd like to say before we stop?
Dice: Yeah. All spelling mistakes and gramma errors, are the result of wolfman fucking up this text.
Upstream: Okay fine (? -DICE), see you then.
