Interview
Melon Dezign. Some spit on them, some bend before them, but no one can deny their affect on the scene. The group can be called the most controversial team of the scene. They were talked about, but they didn't talk. Till now. We proudly present an interview with Schmoovy Schmoov of the Melon family. Read on to get a deeper look on his view of life and scene.
Sledge Hammer: By now I guess it has reached everyone's mind that you are the ex.Reverse of Digital. Why did you; 1. join Melon DeZign, 2. Change your handle?
Schmoovy-Schmoov: Well, I had a nice time in Digital, but I think, only the French section was working... and during an evening at Gengis' place I met Walt/Melon and we released a Pornos' intro during the night... I think both, Walt and me had a lot of fun, so we met each other again and again. At the Saturne party in Septemeber '93, Walt came to me and asked me if I was OK to join, the day after I was struck by the storm and I met my new friends from outer-space, they told me to accept, and so did I! Two days later, I felt I had to change my handle because for me it was a kind of re-birth, and then my good friends the marsians named me Schmoovy-Schmoov which meens in their language: 'Glumly Hunky Groover!', that's it.
Sledge Hammer: It seems that you are playing the role of Performer as coder. What has happened to him?
Schmoovy-Schmoov: First, I don't play at all the role of Performer! And don't worry about him, he his just really busy with school... but wait!
Sledge Hammer: In the Melon Dezign demos it seems that the code is only supporting the ideas and the gfx. Do you have anything aginst hardcore routines or you are just too lazy or unable to make them?
Schmoovy-Schmoov: Well, in my opinion, Mind Expanding Ideas are enoughly HardCore for human's brains... but sometimes we mix HardCore Code, Fantasticabulous Gfx and Smashing Music, but we prefer to stay calm and save the world from a collective suicide! In fact, don't force us to prove it!
Sledge Hammer: Melon has not been the scene's fave group lately... Do you care, and intend to change something about it?
Schmoovy-Schmoov: I think, we still have a lot of fans, and even if we are not the fave group nowadays (is there any one?) the real Romantic Reincarnated Marsians will always support us in our quest: Preparing the arrival of our best friend, the almighty Crayon ShinChan!
Sledge Hammer: Melon Dezign has some of the best coders (Performer & Bannasoft), graphicians (Mack, Hof, Walt, Seen) and musicians (Audiomonster, You). Still, in your demos you include the least code, gfx and music, just for supporting a crazy idea. Don't these people want to show some of their real talent?
Schmoovy-Schmoov: Well, I think I already answered to you! And I disagree with you because we don't include the least code, gfx or music, I think we are just too much 'different'.
Sledge Hammer: Don't you think that style, humour AND routines can be used TOGETHER?
Schmoovy-Schmoov: Sometimes we use humour and we put a Hardly-coded routine who is able to display a picture featuring 2 colors, 352*290 in -*- ONE -*- frame!!! As you can see, once again, Melon DeZign made it possible.
Sledge Hammer: Are there any groups you think are making excellent stuff? Which groups have the best styles in your opinion?
Schmoovy-Schmoov: Movement in the direction as us, they understood. Stellar as also a really cool style, design and groove! And I enjoyed also some cute Banal Project, Ennemy and SCUP stuff.
Sledge Hammer: Contrary to the previous question, which are the most overrated groups or people in your eyes?
Schmoovy-Schmoov: Sim, Drake, Codex, Bruno, Uncle Tom, Slayer, Moby, Dizzy, Movement, Melon, United Marsians, Saddam Hussein, John Steed, Jumbo Burger, Pi la vache, JB, Jay K, Bjork, Lydie!
Sledge Hammer: What did you think when Lemon. died? Relief or sadness for the lost fun of spandimerda and making fun of each other?
Schmoovy-Schmoov: Well, we heard some rumours many times before they died. When they died I was thinking: "That's the way love goes!" And after I said, strange! we are our enemies... Kefrens, not! Lemon, rip! Life is changing and it will never be the same...
Sledge Hammer: Do you think, as quite some others, that the scene is not what it used to be?
Schmoovy-Schmoov: Yes, I agree with that, because I feel like nobody is on the scene, but I think it's due to a dispersion of the scene on the AGA machines and on the PC but I'm sure it will be fix in some years... (?!?)
Sledge Hammer: What will be the next crazy production of Melon DeZign?
Schmoovy-Schmoov: Let's see, our productions are instinctive, so I can't tell you! But anyway, follow the sign...
