Interview
Everyone were probably expecting CNCD dominating the music-compo at The Assembly '94, as last year they had got the first two places with Dizzy & Prime P., but nobody would have never imagined that a guy from CNCD could win the graphics-compo.
And instead, it happened. Destop of CNCD won the gfx-compo with a picture called Pain, representing the face of a woman (that looks like Michael Jackson) seen in an extreme close-up.
The Charts thought to reach this talented Finnish graphician, pretty scene-inactive before of the success, and have a little talk with him...

Destop: Well I'm finnish member of Carillon & Cyberiad institute of the modern spaceage fishing committee. I work at Bloodhouse Ltd. developing computer entertainment for the wellfare society. My former groups have been Dark Angels, Pro and Alpha flight back in the '90-'91's, then I was a member of Dual Crew (without Shining) for quite a while before joining up with Carillon in '92 which was formed into Carillon & Cyberiad i.e CNCD. There was also a mighty strange trip to Anarchy in which I had no control whatsoever during the last months of its life. My previous productions are hardly mentionable except for maybe one commercial game, Stardust, in which I was only a minor slave.
The Charts: What's your opinion about the overall quality of the gfx-competition at The Assembly '94?
Destop: The quality was quite the same as other major pardies as I can recall. I'm glad that I was able to beat many of the famous nogood people from Eurocharts etc. and some Finnish mega hype guys not even worth to mention. And as the only reason for me drawing this picture was a bet over one koskenkorva bottle with Reward/Complex.
I'm satisfied. Don't get me wrong, I still think there was some good pieces in the compo too, just that it's quite hard to tell names when you've seen the most of them only once on a crappy video cannon.
The Charts: Is there an artist with whom you would like to draw a pic together? Tell us the names of some artists you admire and the reason.
Destop: There are guys like Golem, Ra, Facet (YES!), Cougar, Hof etc. that I do admire but I'm not sure if I would ever want to make a picture with anyone.
The Charts: Is there a pic done from another scene-artist, that you'd liked having pixelled?
Destop: There are hundreds of them or so. Don't really know which one to pick up so I won't.
The Charts: Which are in your opinion till today (August-September) the best pictures of this year?
Destop: There hasn't been very much of cool pics out till today. Acidtrip was nice but it smells like a scan...? Also Titan's pic in Real rocked.
The Charts: What do you think of charts in general? Do you think they are necessary for the scene? Can they really give a view of the real valours of the people-productions?
Destop: Well I like to check out all the charts I get my hands on... They don't show the real values but are the closest thing to them anyway.
The Charts: Since from this issue, the BEST PICTURE will do its appareance on THE CHARTS, what do you think of this choice?
Destop: Yea! I might actually get high on this one since I haven't/won't release almost anything scene related stuff of a higher quality. I might not have very much of a change at the individual charts where people have painted tens of pics and logos..
The Charts: What are you working on at the moment? Can we expect some work by you released in soon-coming productions?
Destop: I have been hooked up to Super Stardust since last christmas doing all the drawn graphics to it. So there hasn't been really much time for any bigger scene work but maybe we'll see a CNCD demo this christmas and I will make a contribution to the graphics compo because we made a new bet with Reward over one koskenkorva again about who's gonna place better... sucker..
The Charts: Did you see 'BANSHEE'...the game from Hannibal & JADE? What do you think of the gfx-work by JADE?
Destop: Super Stardust is better.
The Charts: Any last words?
Destop: Vote me for president, always eat all of your food, never trust russians, have fun, don't use any drugs or alcohol cause they are the devil himself! God bless you.
The Charts: Well, thanks a lot Destop! Hopefully, we'll meet you again on these pages in the next future... perhaps after that Super Stardust got released?
