Interview
Have you seen the Virtual World demo from Thomas Landspurg. Elmer was the man behind the graphics. Here is a interview with him...

RAW: What do you think about the demo from Tomsoft "Virtual World"?
Elmer: Of course I like it!! Do you think I would have contributed to a production I don't like? I think it's quite original and the music plunges you in the atmosphere of the demo. From, there it's a real pleasure watching this demo.
RAW: How did you come to know Thomas Landspurg?
Elmer: Phew... It's a long story! A few months ago, a friend of mine, called RUSH (he's a coder in Symbiois) was connected on his MINITEL (it's a sort of mini-modem freely distributed by the french TELECOM which you can connect a lot of people at the same time and on the same system and everybody can speak together just by typing on their keyboard). Thomas was connected too, so RUSH talked with him and asked if he needed any GFX. He answered no. A few weeks later, both of them were connected and Thomas asked if I was still ready to make som GFX, you know the rest....
RAW: How long time did you use to draw all pictures in "Virtual World"?
Elmer: Well, not a lot... About on month for the whole work, but I can tell you that I am NOT really satisfied with it!.. Look out for my soon comming slideshow to see what I am able to draw.
RAW: Are you going to work with Thomas on any future project?
Elmer: I don't know if Thomas is going to make another demo. He told me that it was probably going to be the LAST one. But, who knows? Perhaps he'll change his mind one day. The only other thing I made with him was a little game, but I don't think we'll release it!
RAW: How much of your sparetime do you use in front of Dpaint?
Elmer: Well, ehhh. It depends on my mood. For the last weeks. I have not been drawing a lot. I spent most of my sparetime on REAL 3D. But in my inspiration periods, I spend about 90% of my spartime on DPAINT.
RAW: Do you draw mainly because self maintendance or is it because you want to impress other people with your work?
Elmer: I have to admit that, at the beginning, I was drawing only to show that I was alive. Now, It's just a way of spending my time with fun. I feel so glad when I can see that my work is soon finished and so satisfied when the result is good.
RAW: Have you ever fell in love with a girl drawn in Deluxepaint?
Elmer: Eh? I know that I am not really normal. But there are limits!
RAW: Do you use to draw by free imagination or do you try to copy a already used picture?
Elmer: When inspiration is low, I often take a picture to copy it! For instance, the picture of the "Eye of beholder" was made at the AMEGA party in 21 hours non stop. I was under control of coffein to prevent me from sleeping. I think you can understand that inspiration wasn't at it's best in such a state. Now, I decided to STOP copying pictures. But it was a good way to improve myself.
RAW: Is it a cheat to use a digitizer?
Elmer: It depends if you digtize a sketch to continue it on your screen. Then, it is not a cheat. But if you digitize a picture only to change a detail or to colourize it and DONT say it, then it's cheating.
RAW: How do you get inspiration to draw?
Elmer: Often in class, when I have nothing better to do than drawing (that may explaing my school results last year).
RAW: Have you some habits when you draw?
Elmer: Yes, I usually draw totally naked in a bath of a camel's milk!! (Amazing, If any other graphicians has some strange habits when drawing. Example: drawing with your monitor off, please contact us! Ed.)
RAW: Symbioses are going to release a 4 disk demo early next year. Would you like to reveal some secrets for R.A.W exclusive?
Elmer: I don't know if I am allowed to, but I'll tell you a few words. It'll be called CYBORG and there will be a lot of raytraced animations and pictures in a great story!! Wait for it's release, Spring 92.
RAW: The demo Symbioses released at the Razor party was not so very original with rgb plasma, glenz and so on. Don't you think that orginality is important?!
Elmer: Yes, of course it is! But this demo was originally coded in a few days for the AMEGA party, but we didn't release it there. Then we just released it later. But don't worry the same coder is preparing a new demo on one disk and originality will be present for sure! (So says everybody till the time when you actually release the demo ed.)
RAW: What do you think about your newest slideshow?
Elmer: The most important thing is not what I think, but what you think and what everybody else think. But if you want an answer, I'm quite satisfied with it, even if some of the pictures are a bit old.
RAW: Where do we find the best girls?
Elmer: Girls!! Ahhh!! My favourite subject! For a long time, I've been thinking that the best girls were the Scandinavian blond beauties. But I've changed my mind. I've been thinking a lot and now I believe that we can find nice girls everywhere (there's a magnificent dark haired girl in my class this year) But, the style of girl I still prefer are the oriental girls, they're so mysterious and they seem so delicate WOW! I like this. (Each man has it's own taste I guess. Ed)
RAW: What are your favourite...
Elmer:
Demos: Virtual World, Enigma and Alpha and Omega
Composers: Rhesus Minus, Moby and Uncle Tom.
RAW: I know you like sport, could you describe all sporting activities you do during a week?
Elmer: You know a lot of things about me! And it'll be hard for me to tell you about all my sporting activities. The main one takes most of my time: Eye the cheese!! No, of course, I hate sport! I've been skipping sport at school for two years and I won't stop now! (Don't listen to Elmer. Sport is healty for your body. Just look at me! Ed.) (Don't give us that crap, you fat motherfucker! Tommy).
RAW: Who are your best friends in the scene?
Elmer: Of course all Symbiosis member, but also, JOE, MINION, DOM SPIRITS, ARIOS of Delight and also a guy named something like LORD HELMET.
RAW: What is the best party you have ever been to?
Elmer: The AMEGA party. The only decent party I have been to. I was a bit disappointed by the organisation, but I met a lot of cool guys.
RAW: How is the scene in France at the moment?
Elmer: It's improving every day. A few great groups (DELIGHT, TSL, QUARTEX) and many cool guys. But friendship is NONE and lamers are still present (as everywhere).
RAW: Some last words?
Elmer: Yep, Thanks to Lord Helmet for this interview. Now, if anybody want to get in touch with me, here is the address: HUGUES GIBOIRE GABELOU 35830 BETTON FRANCE Receive the best regards from my dog and long life to EUROPA
