Interview
Propaganda: Hello Cougar and thanks for giving us this interview. I know that you're very honoured being interviewed by Propaganda, or maybe not? Anyway, start with telling us something about yourself that we don't know like: Sex?, age and other things.
Cougar: Yep! Of course I do like SEX. For the kids in the scene a short explanation of THE subject: Six is one more than five, one less than seven and you can divide it by two (persons!)... But only with nice girls! Okey okey okey, you can practice sex also with ugly women, of course .... If YOU like ... But I personally prefere the nice ones! By the way ... I think that the theme sex isn't too important in the Amiga-scene as there sadly are no girls in the scene who are worth mentioning, are there any??!... O.K.... Enough with the sexistic remarks. Let's return to the normal (?), boring (?), stuff.
I try to use my inspiration To give you now some information About my presonality, And as you will just right now see The messages I have to say Aren't written in an easy way!
(Yep! This rhyme had a iambus as metre and consists of three rhyming couplets. The first couplet (two lines) has feminine endings and the two other couplets have masculine endings!...?...)
Now I'm twenty-three years old, And <a href="https://amiga.millway.dk/scener/21">Cougar</a> is the name I'm told. In total I'm 1.84m tall, And have the eyes' color of a waterfall. Seventy-five kg is my total weight, In cm my hairlength is fourty-eight. Right now I'm writing some strange lines For <a href="https://amiga.millway.dk/series/propaganda">Propaganda</a> readers of all kinds! Also I'm drawing for a game But I shall not tell you its name. It will be released late in this year But that's all you're allowed to hear. Of course I'll still be active in the scene, I hope you know what this could mean!... <a href="https://amiga.millway.dk/group/sanity">Sanity</a>'s good (???) organisation Takes also a lot of my inspiration.
Propaganda: Yes, Cougar you're in Sanity now but have you always been in Sanity? Guess not so tell us about your scene career, have you always been able to draw pictures?
Cougar: As I always get this boring question I will answer it in a short way. On the C-64 I was in a group called TBC (as graphician and swapper). Then I bought an Amiga. For the first years I only played games, but then I joined Level-4 as graphician. After a not very productive period of Level-4 I left together with JPN and built up Vertical.
First the sun was shining bright, Soon some clouds did cut the light, Then I left for <a href="https://amiga.millway.dk/group/sanity">Sanity</a>, That's the way it had to be.
(wow, this was a nice rhyme with a trochee as metre and also including a metaphor and some other poetric stuff (poetric? Hmm..No../Poetric Diesel).
I did draw some logos on the C-64 But on Amiga I wanted much more; The "Snake" was the first pic. in my scene-life, And it was brought with "<a href="https://amiga.millway.dk/prod/566">Turmoil</a>" into your drive.
Propaganda: At The Party 3 you won the graphics competition with your picture Dragonsun drawn in 256 cols AGA. It's quite amazing that this picture won course you really have to see it on your own computer with monitor to see the detailed work on it. But it also shows that you can win a competition without drawing a naked woman. Please tell us some details about the picture and other stuff. And which other pictures did you like in the competition?
Cougar: (Attention, crossrhyme! (but no classic metre!?))
Originally "Dragonsun" ought to be, Consisting of the dragon almost only, The titlepic. of the new pack from <a href="https://amiga.millway.dk/group/sanity">Sanity</a> But it seemed for me too lonely. Therefore did I invent some more details, Mixed them with the dragon together, For the pictures' effect never fails, Written into the scene history, forever(?). For a packmenue titlepicture it became to big, But I want it to be used somewhere',so was my voice, At <a href="https://amiga.millway.dk/party/the-party-iii">The Party 3</a> I did take part at the compo quick, And with that I luckily did the right choice!
Furthermore I have to say that in original I did draw the "Dragonsun" in 32 colours (non AGA!), and at The Party 3 I did colorize it to a 256 cols. pic. This was as in the early partyinvitations the organizers did announce a non-AGA gfx-compo. Then, suddenly, they did change their mind... You'll be able to see the non-AGA version, soon. I think that it is better than the one in AGA if you think at the different possibilities... Yep, me also, I was a little bit surprised as I did win but the more I was happy. The quality of the competition-screen was terrible. It was too bright and not very sharp! This was perhaps an advantage for the pictures of a low technical quality but it was surely a big disadvantage for the high guality ones. Yep, you are right! You can see the real "value" of "Dragonsun" only on a Monitor (hallo Juergen...). By the way ... I said that some parts of the pic. are selfcreated ... about two months ago I saw parts of these parts in a titlepic of a certain danish chart. This picture was "made" by a certain danish graphician of a very famous danish group. O.K... so he did cut parts out of my picture, changed the resolution and the colours, turned them around the Z-axis and used 'em in his pic. You can still see the body of one of the three "hidden" figures from my "Dragonsun" at the left side of his picture. He did only cut the head of the figure. I ask: 'Does he need such lame actions?!'(We want names! We want names! /Diesel) There were many very nice pictures that took part in the gfx-competition! Most of them I didn't see at a Monitor (hallo J.) yet, so I can't judge them correctly, I think. But lets remember to the compo .... there were the pics. of Danny, Ra, Peachy, C.A.T., D-Sign, Fairfax, Mack, Reward, Facet ...???...
Propaganda: How much time do you spend on every picture? Course in my eyes you're a perfectionist. Are you really a perfectionist? Do you have any favourite picture among the ones you've drawn or some other picture by another artist?
Cougar: I don't count the hours when I'm drawing pics for the scene ... sometimes it takes e.g. 50(?) hours to finish a big picture ... and sometimes I can be very fast if there is a deadline that I should't miss. So did I e.g. at The Party'91 with the Dog (half of pic. I did draw at da paddy) or with the compo-pic at the [p=]Complex-Sanity-....680XX convention[/p] (about 80% did I draw at the party)... A perfectionist, me??? NO WAY!!! .....???....Okey okey okey ... a little bit perhaps?... Favourite Computer-Pics. among mine? Hum... You don't know them yet as they are for my game. The non-AGA "Dragonsun" among the already released ones. Then I do like the Einstein by RA, "Sunken" by Hof, Peachy's "Sheryl-Lee", The Gathering '94 winning pic by Fairfax ... also nice is some work of Rack, Mack, Danny ...
Propaganda: What gives you inspiration when your're drawing, or do you just open a book and check a picture? Have you ever drawn a picture completely from your mind?
Cougar: That depends upon my mood and the application of the picture. Sometimes I just check a pic. and if I'm very fascinated of it I begin with pixeling. Sometimes I mix a already existing pic. with my own ideas. And sometimes I create a picture completely by myself. Yep, I did already draw quite some pictures from my mind! Most of them will be used in "my" game, some will be released on Amiga in a certain production. When I create a pic., then I generally do it on paper and then I begin to pixel.
Propaganda: Have you made any money on your graphics or are you making any now?
Cougar: Yep. I made the gfx for two projects and now I'm doing gfx for "my" first real game. Then I did earn some few money on partys...
Propaganda: I think your quite known for your pictures but what about logos? The only logo I've seen from you is the Sanity logo in Interference and it looks more like a picture. Are you as good at logos as in pictures and will we see any soon?
Cougar: There are some logos I did release already before Interference was released, then the "Letters of experience"-logo is more a logo than a picture-you only have to watch it for e.g. five minutes. Furthermore I did draw a quite original (I think so) logo for the new Sanity-pack called "Sixpack". Perhaps you don't see it as a logo as I did include it into the packdesign, but it is a logo as I did draw it first before I did draw the picture around the logo. (For those who didn't see a issue of "Sixpack", yet: Try to get it! Chaos is doing a new code ... ) You should at least see one new logo, soon.
Propaganda: Now over to a question that every graphician gets. Which are your favourite graphicians and why? Are there any graphicians that you think are underrated or overrated?
Cougar: My really favourite ones are Ra and Hof as their gfx have a very strong and own expression. But there are also others who do a great job like Rack(!) and Mack... The most underrated gfx-man (if I think at the latest EC) is Rack/Absolute!. Then Tony/Razor 1911 and C.A.T/Essence are also underrated and some others ... Overrated are surely those guys who are at the top due to the huge amount of their releases that are sometimes of a really good quality but often the quality of their gfx is just average. The gfx-men who would really deserve to be among the Top Five in the charts are also my favourite ones (Ra, Rack, Hof and Mack) due to the (constant) high quality of their releases.
Propaganda: There's been some rumour about Sanity starting a mag. Please tell us a little about it and why do you wanna start just another new mag?
Cougar: Yep! It seems that we'll do a mag. This is as I did recognize that I didn't have enough stuff that I could send to my contacts .... UUUarrghhhh .... No! ... Some main-editors of mags did bring us to the idea of doing a mag ... and Sanity doesen't have a own mag ... so why not ...??? Good support will be very welcome, of course.
Propaganda: As you're the organiser in Sanity, I'll take the opportunity to ask what's up in Sanity, do you have any plans for the future?
Cougar:
One word could kill My shame, your will(?) I want to show you But there is an invisible touch (Don't touch) I want to explain you But something tells me to stop I want to tell you But just not too much (Too much) I want to answer you But <a href="https://amiga.millway.dk/group/sanity">Sanity</a> could be for some guys like poison Our poison runnin' thru their veins I don't want to kill those names Poison ....
(Okey okey okey, I'll stop with this crap ... I only was inspired by a great song, running on my CD-player.) Of course there is something in work but I don't want to cause a new "Broken-Promises-disaster".
Propaganda: I know you had some problems in Sanity some time ago with a French division tell us about it and how it started?
Cougar: A certain (stupid) guy did obviously want to cause some confusion.
Some guys did want to be A French division of <a href="https://amiga.millway.dk/group/sanity">Sanity</a>. So they did contact <a href="https://amiga.millway.dk/scener/10">Chaos</a> to see If they could join properly. But this should't be...
As we wouldn't have accepted them. But somehow a guy got some of my unreleased gfx, and so this guy did tell the "Want-to-be-in-Sanity"-guys that they were now members in Sanity, and that I sent him my gfx so the they could use them ... And somehow there probably was also a letter from Chaos that was not really written by Chaos but faked by someone else ... So: Sanity never had a French division! Sanity only has two French members (Moby and Ra).
Propaganda: Now over so some fast questions. Of whom do you first think when I say...
Cougar:
Spaceballs: Lone Starr
Kefrens: Laxity
Virtual Dreams: Tsunami
Movement: Teds Farm
TRSI: Irata
DCS: Mel'O'Dee
Propaganda: Yes, that was just to see what comes to your mind.... Hmmm, what do you do when you're not sitting and pixling, in other words what do you do on your sparetime?
Cougar: I do some sports like mountain climbing, skiing, Bavarese (Fitness & Squash-park), hunting women ..., sometimes playing volley ball or mini golf ... Sometimes I do some (real) art on paper; drinking sometimes beer and cocktails... listening to music; pub and disco .... and some private things ... From time to time I make a journey ... (like two months ago where I was in Egypt to check the real secrets behind the forces of the pyramids ....)
Propaganda: Okey, Cougar now I have to end this interview. Once more, thanks for letting me interview you; the Propaganda staff wishes you all the luck in the scene. If you wanna greet someone or send some messages here's your chance...
Cougar:
Is your coding- or gfx-power really great, And do you wanna change your fate? Then you should just contact me Perhaps you can join <a href="https://amiga.millway.dk/group/sanity">Sanity</a>!? As you may all now see, The poetry has reached its' end, Now you know a bit more about me, And thanks for being that patient.
Propaganda: Yepp, hope the questions are good enough coz this is my second interview so I'm not so good at it yet.... Limbo/Razor 1911
