Soc. Brigade

Soc. Brigade was formed in 1989 by the Hungarians ADT & Asti. Initially, they named their group Liteace, but soon discovered that the name was already in use. Instead, they chose the name Soc. Brigade. “SOC” was not short for “social” or anything similar — it stood for “Snap of Commies”.

They are probably best remembered for being the starting point for several members who would later form Absolute!, as well as for launching the Hungarian diskmag Sledge Hammer, which was later continued and published in English by Absolute!.

The group reorganized, carried out the inevitable member cleanup, and changed their name to Absolute! in early August 1992. Their final release, Aabsolute!, is sometimes referred to as an Absolute! production, but throughout the demo the name Soc. Brigade is used.

They were likely one of the first — if not the first — Amiga groups to have a PC section. At the first official Hungarian demo party in 1991, the Twin Sectors Inc. party, they won the PC demo competition with Torso.
